Aurora forecast for the coming days

Here you can see the Kp forecast, divided into fixed time periods for the coming days. A higher Kp value means stronger auroral activity, but how much you can actually see depends on where you are, whether it is dark enough, the weather conditions, and how well the solar wind couples with the Earth’s magnetic field.

How to read the forecast

Each box in the forecast shows a time period with the expected level of auroral activity. The Kp value indicates how strong the activity is expected to be and gives an indication of how far south the aurora may be visible.

If you have entered your location, you will also see an assessment of the cloud cover where you are. Even strong activity can be difficult to see if the sky is heavily clouded.

The forecast provides the best possible picture based on the available data, but conditions can change rapidly when the solar wind reaches the Earth.
